Abstract:
This photograph shows a street scene in the American Southwest, possibly Texas, Arizona, or New Mexico ca. 1893. Three Mexican-American men in traditional mexican dress look at the photographer. One wears a poncho or blanket draped around him and a kerchief around his face. Another at left peers from behind the wall of a building. A third, in the background, is holding a rope. Another man, an Anglo-American in a black suit and hat, appears to be speaking with someone just outside the frame.
